Virtual WOU Family Weekend FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions:
If you have a question that isn’t answered on this page, please email Kelly Welch, Coordinator for Organizations and Activities at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
Can I get a refund?
All orders are final. If you believe you submitted an order in error or need to make changes to your order, please contact Kelly Welch at email@example.com.
How do I order more than one care package?
The order form only allows you to order one care package at a time. If you need to order more than one (if you are a parent/family member with more than one student or a student with more than one family/household), you will need to fill out and submit a separate form for each package.
What is included in the $20 fee?
- Care Package + Shipping
- Virtual Event: Murder Mystery
Why are t-shirts limited to 3 per care package?
We have a limited number of t-shirts available. To make sure that all students have an option to order a t-shirt, there is a limit of 3 per care package.
Can I customize my care package?
You can select the WOU decal sticker that is right for you!
Those who purchase Package 1 (designed for families and students who are living together) will have an option to select the design for their DIY string art kit.
Those who purchase Package 2 (designed for families and students who are living apart) will have an option to join a Zoom crafting event. Students can submit a personalized message to be included in the care package for their family.
I don’t have access to Zoom but want to see my kid/parent. Can you help with that?
YES! Let us know that you are interested in joining a community craft event (if you are ordering Option 2) and we will contact you to set up a zoom link to work on your DIY project together.
What is the virtual event?
Student Engagement is hosting a family-friendly virtual Murder Mystery on Saturday, March 6 at 7pm. This event is open to all students, but designed specifically for families too! Special thank you to the Residence Hall Association, Weekend Programs, and the Student Activities Board for helping fund this event.
Why aren’t you hosting an in-person event?
Polk County has been in “Extreme Risk” category since November. While the numbers of COVID-19 transmission appear to be declining in Polk County, and we are hopeful that a vaccine will soon be more widely available, we are not able to host families on campus. It would not be responsible for us to encourage others to travel and thus put themselves, and others, at risk for COVID-19 infection or contribute to a spreading event.
Will there be an in-person Family Weekend next year?
We sure hope so! We will only have an in-person event if it is safe to do so. Based on feedback from this year, it is likely we will continue to offer a virtual/hybrid option, even when we return to “normal” event operations. This page will be updated next year as soon as we’re able to confirm our plans for Family Weekend 2022. Family Weekend will continue to take place in Winter Term (January-March).
