This scholarship is designed to reward students who have shown exceptional abilities in managing all academic requirements as well as community activities.<\/span><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Award Amount:<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span>$1,000<\/p>\n<p><b>Eligibility:\u00a0<\/b><span>J<\/span><span>u<\/span><span>nior or senior standing; returning to WOU next academic year<\/span><span>; declared major in\u00a0<\/span><span>either<\/span><span>\u00a0Political Science\u00a0<\/span><span>or<\/span><span>\u00a0Public Policy &amp; Administration; GPA of 3.3 or higher.<\/span><\/p>\n<div><b>Application Materials:<\/b><\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Name, WOU V#, mailing address, phone number, and email address<\/li>\n<li>Unofficial copy of your WOU transcript<\/li>\n<li>Personal essay:<i><span>\u00a0<\/span>two-page (about 500 words), double-spaced essay discussing: 1)\u00a0your academic and career ambitions\/interests in politics, governance, or public service, and how your Political Science or Public Policy &amp; Administration Major has helped you in the pursuit of those interests; and 2)\u00a0how the scholarship would aid in these endeavors.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>R\u00e9sum\u00e9 that includes: work history, campus and off-campus activities and service (e.g., WOU club membership, athletics, positions held at WOU or in the community, awards received, etc.) during your WOU attendance.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>TO APPLY<\/strong><span>: Go to\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/Jre5748HgdXbFGU78\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Politics, Policy and Administration Scholarship<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>How amount will be allocated:<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>Faculty in the Politics, Policy and Administration Department will review all applications submitted by the deadline and will select an award recipient by the end of each spring quarter. This scholarship is supported by a small endowment created in 1990 that grew through contributions from alumni and WOU faculty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ELIGIBILITY <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\"><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The scholarship candidate must be a History major.<\/p>\n<p>The candidates should have completed some history coursework at WOU, preferably at the upper-division (300 or 400) level.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must have sophomore or junior status to be eligible.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship will usually should only be awarded once to a student.<\/p>\n<p>GPA and completed history coursework will be considered in the review process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>APPLICATION DETAILS AND SELECTION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applicants will submit one paper completed in a history course at Western, preferably in an upper-division history course.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants will provide a cover letter with the following:<\/p>\n<p>Address the cover letter to Chair, Department of History<br \/>Provide the number and name of the course in which you completed the paper, the name of the faculty member who taught the course, and the term in which you completed the course.<br \/>In two-to-three paragraphs, discuss how and why you feel that this paper reflects your best work in history at Western.<br \/>Please provide your overall GPA and your GPA in your History courses as reflected in Degree Tracks and a list of the history courses you have completed or are currently completing.<\/p>\n<p>Please attach the cover letter and copy of your paper as separate files in an email to Kimberly Jensen, Chair, Department of History at <a href=\"mailto:jenseki@wou.edu\">jenseki@wou.edu<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Applications will be reviewed by the WOU History Faculty.<\/p>\n<p>The WOU History Faculty may choose not to award a scholarship in a given year if they determine that none of the applications merit a scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship winner will be announced by the end of the Spring term.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AWARD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded to the candidate selected by the WOU History Faculty. The scholarship will be awarded through the Financial Aid office. The winner will receive the scholarship over the course of the subsequent academic year. The awarding of the scholarship will be subject to the availability of funds and the WOU History Faculty may choose to raise or lower the scholarship amount.
