Strengthening the Pack

Western Oregon University is facing a structural budget deficit that we must address. We will do so through a series of deliberate, connected decisions about how we operate. Strengthening the Pack is the process by which we will make those decisions: thoughtfully, transparently, and with our students and mission at the center.

While we are engaged in this process, we also will continue lobbying the state for increased operational funds. However, there is no indication at this point that a significant state investment will happen. In fact, in the context of the current federal landscape, the odds are low. We will also track the recommendations that will emerge from the HB 4124 work.

It is also important to note that even though we will be working towards large structural changes as we develop a balanced budget for FY 28, we will still make decisions that help us preserve our reserves during the current fiscal year. If we are able to eliminate expenses in the near term, we will also consider those actions.
