General Information<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n

The Western Oregon University Fall Choral Festival will take place on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, and is a non-competitive festival open to all choral ensembles.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Priority Registration Deadline: October 23rd, 2024<\/u><\/strong>.<\/i> However, we will accept registrations late based on space availability until the festival is full. As this is a one-day festival, space is limited. Please complete the registration<\/a> information. Payment can be sent ahead of time (preferred) OR you may bring it with you the day of the festival.<\/span><\/p>\n

Invoices will be sent via email within 24 hours of registration. Payment should be made no later than the day of the festival. Checks should be made out to Western Oregon University.<\/span><\/p>\n

Additional Notes<\/span>:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>
Please bring two copies of your music, one for each clinician, who will provide written feedback based on your ensemble’s performance. One of the clinicians will work with your choir on stage following the performance. Please keep in mind that total performance and clinic time is 20 minutes per ensemble.<\/p>\n

The sight-reading session is a clinic intended to help your ensemble with the sight reading process no matter their level. This is a great opportunity for them to receive some tips to help improve sight reading and to encourage reading with your students. We know not all ensembles intend to participate in state qualifying festivals. This is an opportunity for learning, musical enrichment, and musical growth.<\/p>\n

This year we will feature a group voice class with our WOU voice faculty: Dr. Claire Hudkins<\/strong> and Erin McCarthy<\/strong>. There will also be a mass choir sing-a-long. The mass choir sing-a-long will be Gamaya<\/a> by Paul John Rudoi. <\/i>Please purchase and bring your copies of the piece if you would like to participate in the group sing.<\/div>\n

Greetings Fellow Music Educators!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You are cordially invited to participate in the <\/span>42nd Annual Great Western Music Championships <\/i><\/b>at Western Oregon University.<\/span><\/p>\n

Date: <\/b>The Festival will be held on <\/span>Thursday, April 3, and Friday, April 4, 2025<\/b>, in Rice Auditorium. It is open to all High School Bands and Orchestras regardless of classification.<\/span><\/p>\n

Notice:<\/b> Due to a large number of participants, we can only accept 32 total groups. Schools are asked to enter only one of each type of ensemble (One Band, one String Orchestra, and one Full Orchestra). This is solely to avoid conflicting scheduling between previous schools bringing two different bands and orchestras.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Registration:<\/b> Registration is now open. We are using an online system to accept registrations. Please use this link<\/a> to register for the GWMC 2025. <\/span><\/p>\n

Fee: <\/b>We will be prioritizing performance preference by when we receive your entry fee of <\/span>$375 <\/b>(per ensemble). We will not schedule your ensemble until you have paid the registration fee. Please send your entry fee by mail to the address attached to the bottom of this email.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cancellation Policy: <\/b>In the event it is necessary for a school to withdraw from the festival, a full refund will be made provided the cancellation is made prior to <\/span>March 5, 2025.<\/b> \u00a0<\/b>Any cancellations received after this date will forfeit their registration fees<\/span><\/i>. If you will need to withdraw from the event, please contact Hannah Kuper at <\/span>hkuper22@mail.wou.edu<\/span><\/a>, or Dr. Seth Wollam at <\/span>wollams@mail.wou.edu<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Adjudicators: <\/b>Our judges are among the most respected music educators and are all certified to recommend groups to the OMEA State Contest. From them, you will gain not only a clear, objective assessment of your group but receive suggestions for improvement from three master teachers. Adjudicators for this year will be announced in the first information email sent to registered directors\/schools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Recordings: <\/b>You will be presented with an audio recording engineered by a trained recording technician shortly after your performance. <\/span>We will be using Google Drive to send you your recordings.<\/span><\/p>\n

Composers Workshop XVIII \u2013 2023-24<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Western Oregon University presents its annual Composers Workshop<\/strong> that features guest composers & performers throughout the academic year. The workshop aims to foster the creation, growth and appreciation of contemporary music in the University\u2019s local and regional communities by providing a forum of composition-related topics, presentations, and performances for the following clientele: Composers of any age who are at the early and formative stages of their creative activities; Studio and classroom music teachers engaged in teaching beginning composition techniques; Western Oregon University students and faculty; and Community members.<\/p>\n
