Diversity Commitment Scholarship
At Western Oregon University we are committed to recognizing and supporting outstanding first year and transfer students from diverse cultural, educational, and economic backgrounds with unique talents, interests, and life experiences that will enrich our campus community. One way we do this is through our Diversity Commitment Scholarship. This scholarship awards up to $3000/year and is renewable for a total of 5 years (15 terms) for incoming freshmen and for a total of 3 years (9 terms) for incoming transfers.
Requirements to apply for incoming freshmen and transfer
Must be admitted to Western Oregon University
Available to incoming freshmen or transfer students only
Current and International students are not eligable
Steps for applying
Applying for the Diversity Commitment Scholarship happens within the Admissions Application for Western Oregon University
One of the questions you will respond to will ask if you want to be considered for this award.
If the answer is yes, you will receive an email with a link to your admissions application portal (Wolf Den) to submit a short essay to finalize your application.
Ongoing requirements
- Maintain full-time status, 36 credits for the academic year. A minimum of 9 credits per term must be taken for your scholarship to be applied.
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
- Meet with an MSSP staff advisor a minimum of once a year to complete your Annual Appointment.
- Follow up and attend any additional MSSP Required Appointments requested by your advisor.
- Freshmen ONLY: Take and pass the Diversity Scholars Class (ICS 104) in Fall, Winter, and Spring of their first year at WOU – This includes completing the Experience Hours.
- Must apply for FAFSA or ORSA, and be considered an “on time filer”, every year that you are awarded the scholarship. Failure to submit one of these applications and failure to submit on time may result in loss of your scholarship.
David S. Brody Memorial Foundation
In 1995, Dr. Richard Woodcock and Dr. Ana Munoz-Sandoval established this scholarship in honor of their colleague, Dr. David S. Brody, to recognize his dedication and years of work with bilingual students.
This scholarship is designed to provide yearly financial support to cover the cost of tuition, room & board, books & supplies and mandatory fees.
- Up to 5 years/15 terms for Freshmen and 3 years/9 terms for Transfers
Requirements to apply for incoming freshmen and transfer
- Must be admitted to Western Oregon University
- Bilingual (preferably Spanish/English)
- 3.0 GPA or higher
- Available to incoming freshmen or transfer students only
- Demonstrated Financial Need
Steps for applying
Apply through your ScholarshipUniverse account, which you can access through your WOU portal in the red Scholarship Icon.
Note: You must apply for admissions and be admitted prior to being able to access your ScholarshipUniverse account as you will need to be able to set up your WOU Portal and know your WOU Student ID Number (also known as your V#).
