In solving these problems, students learn about the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising logic skills and experiencing a taste of natural-language processing in the 21st century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Competition Dates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Open Round:<\/strong> <mark style=\"background-color:#7bdcb5\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>Thursday, January 29, 2026, 9:00 am \u2014 12:00 pm.<\/strong> <\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Western Oregon University is one of only three host sites in Oregon (the others are at a non-profit educational org in Beaverton and at Lakeridge High School in Lake Oswego). While we are primarily working with a group of students at Central High School in Monmouth-Independence, any eligible participants are welcome to join us for the Open Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Where<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Building and Room assignment: <mark class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/safety\/forms\/campus-map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Werner University Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/student-engagement\/conference-services\/wuc-floor-plans\/\">first floor, <\/a>Santiam Room<\/mark><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parking: Details coming soon <a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/safety\/files\/2023\/08\/2023-2024-Parking-lot-map-All-ZONEs-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">campus map<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please arrive at 8:30am<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Due to a lack of grant funding, we are not able to provide breakfast and lunch this year, so please bring a snack. Water bottles will be provided.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For any questions, contact the local organizer given below under the &#8216;Registration&#8217; heading<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Invitational Round:<\/strong> The top ten percent of Open Round performers nationwide will be invited to participate. The Invitational Round competition will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2026, 9:00 am \u2013 1:00 pm. If any participants who compete at the WOU site are invited, we will reserve a room for the Invitational Round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>International Olympiad:<\/strong> Eight students will be selected to represent the United States at the 22nd International Linguistics Olympiad to be held in ? in July 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Registration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The NACLO student registration page is at: <a href=\"https:\/\/naclo.org\/registration_page.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/naclo.org\/registration_page.php<\/a>.
