The Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) degree offers students an opportunity to construct individualized programs based on their interests and aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #e02b20\"><b>Mission<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span>The faculty at Western Oregon University recognize the importance of meeting the needs and interests of all of our students. Accordingly, the IDS program offers you an opportunity to construct individualized majors based on your own interests and goals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #e02b20\"><b>Learning Outcomes<\/b><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>Define your own learning goals. (PS)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>Design an interdisciplinary program of study for achievement of those goals. (PS)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>Differentiate\u00a0<\/span><span>the ways of knowing, the conventions, and methods used in your areas of study. (PS)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>Explain appropriate theoretical and practical connections among the areas of study in your program. (IL)<\/span><span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>Demonstrate reflection and self-assessment in completing your program of study. (IL)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #e02b20\">Interdisciplinary Major 54 \u2013 82 credits<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>With the help of an academic advisor you work together to develop your own degree plan.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #e02b20\"><strong><em>How you get there with\u00a0interdisciplinary studies<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete <a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/gened\/requirements\/\">General Education Requirements<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Complete at least 27 credits in at least 2 <a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/ids\/?page_id=1422\">Focus Areas<\/a>, with at least 48 upper-division credits in the major<\/li>\n<li>Complete the 1 credit <a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/ids\/?page_id=1260\">IDS 499 Capstone Course<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Complete 180 total credits, and 60 total upper division credits<\/li>\n<li>You may transfer in course work from other universities.
