GENERAL CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS:<\/b>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li><b> FIRST-YEAR STUDENTS:<\/b> Students who enroll at WOU within one year of high school graduation regardless of class standing must live on campus for the full academic year (Fall, Winter and Spring).\u00a0 Exceptions to this requirement may be requested by petition.\u00a0 Exceptions that are generally approved include:\u00a0 living at home with parents within a 30 mile radius of WOU, having a dependent that is living with you, or marriage\/registered domestic partnership.\u00a0 Other exceptions are generally not approved.\u00a0 If waiver of the live-in requirement is approved after moving in, a $7.00\/day cancellation fee will be applied to the student\u2019s account.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> CONTRACT CANCELLATION FEES:<\/b> Students who cancel this contract prior to the end of their contract, but remain enrolled at WOU, will be required to pay $7.00 per day for the remainder of the contract.\u00a0 This includes first-year students who have the first-year live-in requirement waived to move home, care for a dependent, get married, enter into a registered domestic partnership, or for any other approved reason.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> REQUIRED CREDITS PER TERM:<\/b> Housing is provided for Western Oregon University undergraduate (8 credits or more) and graduate (6 credits or more) students during each academic term for the duration of this contract. Students must petition to lower this requirement in a given term.\u00a0 Students may be dual-enrolled at a community college or other university with verification of approved dual-enrollment application.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> CONTRACT EXCEPTIONS:<\/b> Exceptions to this contract may be requested by petition. Petition forms are available at University Housing and Campus Dining (UHCD). Exceptions granted to one provision of this contract shall not be construed as a waiver of any other provisions. The final determination on exceptions to contractual provisions lies within the discretion of UHCD.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<b>III. DEFINITIONS:<\/b>\r\n\r\nFor the purposes of this contract, the following definitions shall apply:\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li><b> CONTRACT YEAR:<\/b> 9\/18\/16 \u2013 6\/16\/17 for residence hall students and 9\/18\/16 \u2013 6\/17\/17 for Arbor Park students. Early arrivals\u2019 contract year begins upon the date of check-in.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> RESIDENT:<\/b> Any WOU student, staff, or faculty who lives within the residential complex. All residents are bound by the Guide to Residential Living and the Code of Student Responsibility.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> COMMUNITY: <\/b>A unified body of individuals who live together on a floor, in a pod, or in a building. Each individual feels valued and included in an environment that is safe to share ideas, thoughts, and common goals.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> UNIVERSITY HOUSING AND CAMPUS DINING (UHCD) STAFF:<\/b> Please see the Office of University Housing organizational chart or visit our staff page online at:\u00a0 https:\/\/wou.edu\/housing\/.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> RESIDENT DIRECTOR (RD): <\/b>Responsible for the overall operation of assigned residence hall(s) or apartments. Supervises Resident Assistant staff, serves as conduct officer, resource person, and emergency response person to students.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> RESIDENT ASSISTANT (RA): <\/b>Upper class student who lives in the hall and manages a residential community (floor, pod, wing, building). The RA serves as an advisor, policy enforcer, programmer, and resource person to students.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b style=\"line-height: 1.5\">HALL:<\/b><span style=\"line-height: 1.5\"> Residential building that houses students \/ faculty \/ staff.<\/span><\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> UNIVERSITY PROPERTY:<\/b> Property, equipment, and materials\u00a0which WOU owns and for which the University has responsibility.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\n<strong>IV. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF OCCUPANCY<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThis contract is designed so that the residents who abide by the contract receive the greatest benefit.\u00a0 The <i>Terms and Conditions of Occupancy<\/i> are based on the established educational goals of the University, consideration for other residents, health and safety standards, compliance with established laws, and the University's <i>Code of Student Responsibility<\/i>.\r\n\r\nIf a student does not comply with the<i> Terms and Conditions of Occupancy<\/i>, the policies set forth in <i>The Guide to Residential Living<\/i>, or the <i>Code of Student Responsibility<\/i>, the student may be subject to disciplinary action, including eviction, with financial penalties. Questions concerning any of the terms and conditions, should be directed to the office of University Housing and Campus Dining.\r\n\r\n<b>One-Term Contract Period<\/b>: Those who are not first-year students have the option to request a one-term contract.\u00a0 To do so, check the box at the end of this document and include the $150.00 term contract fee.\u00a0 This contract is an academic year contract unless the \u201cTerm Contract\u201d box is checked and the $150 fee is paid with this signed contract.\u00a0 A student cannot convert an academic year contract to a one-term contract after moving onto campus.\u00a0 One-term contracts are not available Spring Term.\r\n\r\n<b>A. \u00a0RESIDENTIAL DINING: <\/b>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li><b><\/b> <b>Meal Plan Options<\/b>: The Residential Meal Plan options are noted in the table on the next page.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><b> General Meal Plan Information: <\/b>At the beginning of each term, food dollars will be deposited into individual resident accounts and the overhead expense will be included in housing charges. With the exception of Arbor Park residents, purchase of a Residential Meal Plan is required each term.\u00a0 Residents may purchase food at any location on campus at any available time.\u00a0 All food items at Valsetz Dining Hall are wholesale priced for residential meal plans because the overhead costs are paid in room and board overhead fees.\u00a0 Menu items are individually priced allowing residents to eat meals in the dining room or take items out of the building. Purchases at other campus restaurants located in Werner University Center are priced at full retail prices because the residential meal plan does not prepay overhead expenses for those restaurants.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nRegular meal service in Valsetz Dining Hall is open Monday-Thursday, 7 am \u2013 11 pm. Friday, 7 am \u2013 10 pm. Saturday, 10 am \u2013 10 pm.\u00a0 Sunday, 10 am \u2013 11 pm.\u00a0 Meal hours are subject to change \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0or modification to accommodate holidays, vacation periods, campus closures and delays, and the beginning and ending of a term.\r\n\r\nMeals can be purchased for guests as long as the cardholder is present. Do not remove dishes, trays, or silverware from Valsetz. Take-out containers are provided. Remaining balances at the end of \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0the term transfer over to Winter and Spring Terms. Refunds are not\u00a0 given for unused food dollars at the end of any term or at the end of the academic year. Balances should be used by the end of \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Spring Term. A Financial Commitment to renew housing allows unused food dollars ($20 or more) to carry over to a Residential Meal Plan or Wolf Bonus Account for the next contract year. At the end \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0of Spring term only, students who have not renewed housing\u00a0 but are registered for classes the following year may transfer funds of $20 or more to a Wolf Bonus Account. Additional food dollars can \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0be deposited during UHCD office hours with a minimum of $20.00 \u2013 cash, check, credit\/debit cards accepted.\r\n\r\nMeal plan changes are not allowed once the term begins. Meal plan changes are allowed for the following term before the term begins.\r\n\r\n<b>B. \u00a0CHARGES\/FEES<\/b>\r\n<ol>\r\n \t<li><b> Room and Board Charges:<\/b> Room and board rates appear in the table on page 2 of this contract and do not include Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break and Spring Break. Students may remain during the vacation at the following rates:<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>\r\nThanksgiving Break: $0.00;\r\n\r\nWinter Break: $250.00;\r\n\r\nSpring Break: $100.00.\r\n\r\nNo fee is assessed to Arbor Park residents for staying over the breaks. If access to a resident\u2019s room is requested during a break there will be a $35.00 charge per access to room. Students who will \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 not be returning the following term are not eligible to stay during the breaks.
