HOUSING SELECTION – WHAT IS IT?

HOUSING SELECTION IS THE PROCESS USED BY INCOMING FIRST-YEAR AND TRANSFER STUDENTS WHO HAVE RESERVED A SPACE BY 5 PM – JULY 22, 2020. THESE STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELECT THE ROOM AND ROOMMATE(S) OF THEIR CHOICE ONLINE!

The Housing Selection process is optional. It is entirely online – and is generally available in Mid/Late-May through the month of July.

  • WHEN AND WHERE WILL I GET MY TIME-SLOT TO CHOOSE MY ROOM?

Anyone with a COMPLETED RESERVATION FORM (by the reservation deadline listed above) ON FILE WILL HAVE A START TIME/DATE.  Your start date/time should be visible on your Housing Overview (Go to the WOU Portal and click on WOU University Housing) page in May.

  • WHEN CAN I SEE MY SELECTION START TIME and DATE.

You can and should start checking in May to see that your roommates are confirmed on your Housing Overview page (Go to the WOU Portal and click on WOU University Housing). After 5 pm, May 13, 2020 (tentative) your start date/time will be visible (provided you have a completed housing reservation on file). THEN at Noon on MAY 20 the selection process for spaces for Fall Term, 2020 will begin.  BEFORE THAT HAPPENS, the first thing(s) you will need to do are:

  • ONLY CONFIRMED ROOMMATES WILL SHOW UP AS AN OPTION TO BE PULLED IN WITHIN THE PROCESS. You will need to access My College Roomie (MCR) – our roommate search/matching software to get those roommates confirmed BEFORE Selection begins on May 20: Access My College Roomie (expect to receive an email from MCR in Mid-March about how to access/use their software) to find and match with your perfect roommate.  Matched roommates in MCR will roll overnight into our housing system setting you up to pull your matched roommates into your room selection or to be pulled into a room selection by your matched roommate in May when Housing Selection will begin.
  • We will send out a reminder email in May, but you can start checking your Housing Overview page in Mid/Late May. 5:00 pm, May 14th is our current target to release selection start times and dates. Once start date/times are posted – PLAN AHEAD – so that you (or the person in your group with the earliest start date/time) can access the system asap after your start time rolls around. The sooner you login and choose, the less competition you will have for the space you want!
    • Plan ahead so that you will be free when your start date/time roll around.
    • DO I HAVE TO CHOOSE A ROOMMATE?

Selection of a specific roommate is OPTIONAL. If you choose NOT to select a roommate and you choose a double occupancy room, either another incoming student will select the open space in your room, or the Housing Team WILL PLACE A ROOMMATE WITH YOU LATER THIS SUMMER. You can check your Housing Overview page late August to see who has been placed with you. Don’t panic if you don’t see a roommate. There are always new applications coming in as well as cancellations and we will be working throughout the summer to place everyone before Move-In Day in the Fall.

    • DO I HAVE TO CHOOSE MY SPACE ONLINE?

The online selection process is OPTIONAL – though we encourage you to choose your space! If you choose NOT to select a space, the Housing Team WILL PLACE YOU IN REMAINING AVAILABLE SPACES LATER THIS SUMMER. You can check your Housing Overview page after the online selection process has closed to see where you have been placed. Keep in mind that  your chances of being placed in your first choice may diminish with this option.

    • MY REQUESTED ROOMMATE DID THE ROOM SELECTION, DO I NEED TO DO IT AGAIN ?

If you and your roommate(s) did indeed match with one another on My College Roomie, then you BOTH should receive a confirmation email letting you know what room you have reserved or been pulled into. If you DO NOT receive that email, you have NOT been pulled in/placed and need to go back in the system and select the space with your roommate, or contact University Housing.

    • WHAT DETERMINES MY SELECTION TIME-SLOT START TIME?

All selection time-slots are assigned based on when we received your COMPLETED (this includes our reception of your reservation fee as well) current housing reservation. HOWEVER – Do Not Worry if you have a later time-slot. If you know someone with an earlier time-slot and you both want to be roommates, THAT person can – and SHOULD – use their earlier time-slot to go in, make their selection, and PULL YOU IN! (Provided that you BOTH matched with each other on My College Roomie.)

NOTE: Once your time-slot begins, for the first 7-10 days, THE SELECTION SYSTEM WILL BE AVAILABLE FROM Noon to 5:00 pm WEEKDAYS. The last assigned selection timeslot on each day will start at 4:30 pm.  Once everyone has had the opportunity to make their selection, you will have access 24-7 to the system to look and choose. REMEMBER – THERE ARE TIME-SLOTS STARTING RIGHT BEHIND YOU – IF YOU TAKE LONGER TO MAKE YOUR CHOICE(S), IT COULD IMPACT THE SPACES THAT YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM.

    • WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND AND WANT A DIFFERENT ROOM?

Contact University Housing if you make a mistake or need to make a change to your housing selection for the coming term.

    • WHAT IF THE HALL I WANT TO LIVE IN DOES NOT HAVE ANY OPEN ROOMS WITH SPACE FOR BOTH MYSELF AND MY ROOMMATE?

HERE IS THE DEAL: Lets say that you want to move into Ackerman Hall in the Fall and that both you and your roommate want to be in Ackerman. All the double rooms in Ackerman just have one space open in them so that there are NO open double rooms where there is still space for both you and your roommate.

Now you need to decide – Is your priority to stay with your roommate – or is it to stay in Ackerman Hall?

Think about what it is that you want. If you want to stay in that community – perhaps you and your roommate could choose open spaces in 2 rooms right next to each other?

If your priority is to stay with that roommate – then you can clear your search and look for different communities in Ackerman with open doubles, or go completely out of Ackerman and look at another hall where there are open doubles for you and your roommate to live together.

If worse comes to worse and you are just not seeing anything, contact the Housing Team – we are here to help!

    • I PLAY BASEBALL (OR BASKETBALL, OR VOLLEYBALL, OR RUN TRACK) – AND I WANT TO LIVE WITH MY TEAMMATE. HOW DO I DO THAT?

MAKE SURE THAT BOTH YOU AND YOUR TEAMMATE HAVE BOTH MATCHED UP WITH ONE ANOTHER ON MCR AS CHOSEN ROOMMATES. THIS CONFIRMS YOU BOTH AS  ROOMMATE CHOICES. Once you are CONFIRMED roommates, the person with the earliest selection start time needs to make sure that when they select a space that their chosen roommate(s) also show up in that selection. REMEMBER, only CONFIRMED roommates can be pulled into a selected space.

NOTE:  EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING SURE THAT THEY RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION EMAIL THAT STATES THAT THEY HAVE BEEN PLACED IN A ROOM OR APARTMENT.  If you do NOT receive your confirmation email and you think that you should have – CONTACT THE HOUSING TEAM IMMEDIATELY!

    • WHAT TIME ZONE ARE THE START TIMES LISTED IN?

Currently all start times are listed for the Pacific Daylight Time Zone.  Take a look at this website to figure out what your start time will be wherever you happen to be.
