Prepare for your Future as a Physician Assistant
At Western Oregon University, students can complete the required coursework for admission to a physician assistant (PA) program while earning their bachelor’s degree. While majors such as Biology or Chemistry include many pre-PA courses, students are encouraged to choose a major that best aligns with their interests and goals. PA programs do not require a specific major; admissions decisions are based on academic preparation and relevant experience.
Courses
The courses listed below reflect common prerequisites for the three PA programs in Oregon: OHSU, George Fox, and Pacific University. This list is intended as a general guide. Students should review individual program websites for specific prerequisite requirements, recommended additional coursework, and application details.
Prerequisite Courses
- Anatomy & Physiology (BI 334-336)
- Microbiology (BI 331)
- Principles of Biology (BI 221-223)
- General Chemistry (CH 221-223)
- Organic Chemistry (CH 334) | 1 class – required by Pacific University only
- Psychology (PSY 201 or PSY 311)
- Statistics (STAT 243z)
Pre-PA students should work closely with their major advisor for course selection and ensuring they are on track for graduation. A Health Professions advisor can provide additional support with PA school application preparation.
Programs
Students are encouraged to explore PA programs both in Oregon and out of state. A Health Professions advisor can assist with reviewing entry requirements and discussing next steps.
