You should plan on adding a First Year Seminar to your Fall schedule so you can begin to build your foundational skills, connect with other students and faculty, and learn more about all the great things WOU has to offer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Students take both:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span>FYS 107 (Writing-Focused Seminar)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>FYS 207 (Quantitative-Focused Seminar)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span>FYS can be taken in any order or even in the same term.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Students may select any topic that interests them and fits their schedule for a FYS. View the list of available Fall 2022 topics here: <a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/gened\/fys\/\">FYS Schedule<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><span><\/span>Some sections of FYS are labeled with &#8220;SEP&#8221; to designate sections for students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/sep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student Enrichment Program.<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><span>SEP students must take at least one SEP-aligned topic section, and can take both FYS on an SEP-aligned topic section if they choose. SEP aligned topic sections are offered every term in both FYS 107 (Started from the Bottom: Now We\u2019re Here) and FYS 207 (Get Woke to Being Broke).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"et_pb_toggle_title\">Foundations<\/h2>\n<div class=\"et_pb_toggle_content clearfix\">\n<div class=\"fruitful_tabs_tab active\">\n<div class=\"ff-inside\">\n<div class=\"ff-tab-content\">\n<ul>\n<li><span>Students should complete their Foundations requirements as early as possible, particularly their Writing and Mathematics requirements to build skills that will serve them well throughout their college career.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Completing these courses during your first year is recommended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Foundations: Mathematics<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Many majors require math courses as major requirements which students can use to fulfill the General Education requirement. Check your DegreeTracks or with your advisor to determine the math path for your major.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Any student may also meet their Foundations: Mathematics requirement scoring a 61 or higher on the WOU ALEKS Math Assessment in a timed and proctored environment. Students may not \u201ctest out\u201d of this requirement with a TOESL or CLEP score as with the previous BA requirement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"et_pb_toggle_title\">Exploring Knowledge<\/h2>\n<div class=\"et_pb_toggle_content clearfix\">\n<ul>\n<li><span>These courses are also meant to be available to students early in their college career and may also be taken in the first year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Students may find an Exploring Knowledge course that also meets a major requirement and can use the course to meet both requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>The Exploring Knowledge courses present a great opportunity for students to explore content and ideas that interest them.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"et_pb_toggle_title\" style=\"text-align: left\">Integrating Knowledge<\/h2>\n<div class=\"et_pb_toggle_content clearfix\">\n<div class=\"ff-root fruitful_tabs type-accordion from-shortcodes\" data-type=\"accordion\" data-break=\"767\">\n<nav><\/nav>\n<div class=\"fruitful_tabs_tab active current\">\n<div class=\"ff-inside\">\n<div class=\"ff-tab-content\">\n<ul>\n<li><span>We expect that students will take these interdisciplinary courses later in their college careers to build on their work in the Foundations and Exploring Knowledge categories. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Integrating Knowledge courses may have a prerequisite that can be met in an earlier General Education category. If you have an AA degree that doesn\u2019t meet your General Education requirements you may request a review by using our <a href=\"http:\/\/wou.edu\/gened\/petitions-form\">petition form<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><em>*AAOT, ASOT, California Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum, California State University Transfer Degree, Hawaii Articulated Associate of Arts degree or Washington Direct Transfer Degree<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Oregon Transfer Module&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;on&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><span>Oregon Transfer Module (OTM) will meet all WOU General Education requirements with the exception of Integrating Knowledge (2 courses, 6-8 credits).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Core Transfer Map&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.17.6&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"59\" src=\"https:\/\/marvel-b1-cdn.bc0a.com\/f00000000198109\/wou.edu\/gened\/files\/2019\/01\/Oregon-Transfer-Compass-web-300x59.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"size-medium alignnone\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span>In 2017 the State Legislature passed House Bill 2998, a bill designed to streamline transfer between Oregon\u2019s community colleges and public four-year universities. Upon completion of university identified passport requirements, the university records completion of the Passport on the student record. The Interstate Passport enables successful transfer of a block of lower-level general education learning to other institutions participating in the Interstate Passport Network.
