Faculty are entitled, without institutional discipline or restraint, to discuss all relevant matters in the classroom, to explore all avenues of scholarship, research, and creative expression, and to speak or write on matters of public concern as well as on matters related to professional duties and the functioning of the University. Academic freedom carries with it certain responsibilities, such as the faithful performance of professional duties and obligations, the recognition of the demands of the scholarly enterprise, and the candor to make it clear that when one is speaking on matters of public interest, one is not speaking for the institution. The University affirms its continued commitment to the protection of academic freedom with changes in the political and technological landscape.

American Association of University Professors – Advancing Academic Freedom

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.0″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ sticky_enabled=”0″]

Resources

The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts offers classroom resources and activities on how to lead conversations on civility and respectful dialogue.

Educating for American Democracy offers classroom activities and information on how to discuss historical events and current public policy issues.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

["post-777","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
