{"id":22675,"date":"2024-06-17T11:53:38","date_gmt":"2024-06-17T18:53:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/english\/?page_id=22675"},"modified":"2024-06-17T11:53:38","modified_gmt":"2024-06-17T18:53:38","slug":"second-prize-peter-sears-poetry-2023-2024","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wou.edu\/english\/second-prize-peter-sears-poetry-2023-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Second Prize Peter Sears Poetry 2023-2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Julian Zeigler &#8211; Second Prize<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>4 AM<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sable blue<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">paints over the sky layer by layer<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">imperceptible until undeniable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My head rests against the passenger door,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">truck vibrating alive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I watch the lights on the wind turbines as we pass.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A sea of red flickering slow,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">blinking in multitudes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have fallen out of the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Radio notes hum in softly,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">static warmth, while<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the hills open<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">like alien life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sun is rolling closer under the Earth\u2013\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">but for now<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">deep blue and vivid red thrive,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and grass sways in the headlights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sleep exchanged for this shifting landscape<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">breathing in isolation. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Julian Zeigler &#8211; Second Prize 4 AM \u00a0 Sable blue paints over the sky layer by layer imperceptible until undeniable.
