Each year, the Division of Health and Exercise Science holds an awards ceremony to recognize our outstanding students in Community Health and Exercise Science.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, this year we were unable to hold our annual recognition reception due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In lieu of our annual reception, our outstanding students were virtually honored for their academic achievement, professional development, community service, and leadership experience. It is with great honor that 10 outstanding Exercise Science students were recognized for 2021.<\/p>\n

I am currently striving towards getting a doctorate in Physical Therapy. Being that I come from a very underserved community, in the future, I wish to take my knowledge and eventually serve and give back to my community and others like it.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

During the summer of 2020, an amazing experience was volunteering at a local PT clinic. I was able to serve as a PT aide, as well as observe and learn from some extraordinary physical therapists, which made me even more excited and eager about my career.<\/p>\n

Before I graduate one of my goals is to go on exchange at the University of California State University San Bernardino and participate in their Kinesiology program. <\/p>\n

As for my career plans, I plan on attending the University of Western States where I’ll be seeking a doctor in chiropractic.\n<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

                • I was a part of WOU Psychology Student Association from 2017-2018. In WOUPSA, we worked on branching out the behavioral sciences division alongside the SONA research studies being conducted by 3rd and 4th year students within the program. [voluntary]<\/li>\n
                • From 2018-2019, I was in WOU Gerontology Student Association where we worked to put on events for staff, students, and the public in attempt to inform individuals about gerontology and some of the current complications within the field. We also put on events at local senior homes such as a senior prom and movie nights! [voluntary]<\/li>\n
                • From 2019-2020, I was a student office specialist for the Advising center where I helped students create appointments for advising, studying tips, academic standing, and other advising needs. I was also a science center tutor for 100 and 200 level courses in biology, chemistry, and physics. [both were paid positions]\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

                  I am planning to teach middle school health and physical education to inspire the youth of today and grow their love of being active. I am also hoping to coach basketball, track, and maybe even cross country. I love being involved in athletics and youth activities in as many ways as I can.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
