A WOU graduate who is currently working on an Elementary Mathematics Specialist certificate at the university has published an article in the March\/April edition of The Oregon Mathematics Teacher \u2013 an article that has an origin in her classwork.<\/p>\n

Jada Pearson, a 2000 master\u2019s in education graduate, said in many classes in the EMIL program the final projects are based on the format of articles in the teaching journal, so she decided to submit one she worked on in ED 637, Inquiry into Pedagogy, to the publication.<\/p>\n
Pearson, who has taught in the Beaverton School District for nearly 25 years, wrote about her experience using number talks in her kindergarten classroom. Pearson said she thinks its important for teachers to share their classroom experience.<\/p>\n
\nI was excited to be able to share my learning with other teachers. This is an extension of the work I have been doing with other teachers in my building and throughout my school district.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
She added that she also liked representing mathematics education in early elementary school in the publication. \u201cThe Oregon Mathematics Teacher is a journal that tries to present articles for a variety of grade levels, but the early primary grades are less frequently represented. I think this is due to the need for elementary teachers to be generalists and the large focus on literacy at the earlier grades.\u201d<\/p>\n
