Mission<\/h2>\n

The Computer Science program includes instruction in both the theoretical and applied aspects of computing, with a primary goal of developing the hands-on skills that will make you marketable to employers in Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. You’ll take courses in introductory to advanced programming, computer architecture, and software development.<\/p>\n

Learning outcomes<\/h2>\n

Upon completion of the Computer Science program at Western Oregon University, students should be able to:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Communication and Teamwork:<\/strong> Communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences and work effectively within a team.<\/li>\n
  2. Ethical, Social, and Cultural Awareness:<\/strong> Be aware of and apply knowledge of ethical, social, and cultural issues in the practice of computing.<\/li>\n
  3. Technical Expertise and Computational Problem Solving:<\/strong> Computing and mathematical foundations, programming, data structures and algorithms, and their application in solving problems.<\/li>\n
  4. Software Engineering, Design, and Analysis:<\/strong> Software engineering practice; analyze, design, implement, and evaluate a computer-based system, process, component, or program to meet desired needs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Computer Science majors must have a grade of C or better in the required Computer Science major courses.<\/p>\n
