What can I do with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Criminal Justice majors are prepared to engage in civic endeavors and to assume field positions in criminal justice and social service agencies or enter graduate programs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Students must have an overall GPA of 2.67 in order to participate in a practicum. Students who do not have a GPA of 2.67 by their senior year, must either petition to partake in a practicum, or, in consultation with their faculty adviser, select upper division\u00a0Criminal<\/span>\u00a0Justice<\/span>\u00a0classes that will be substituted for their practicum credits.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

  COMPLETION OPTIONS (20 credits)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

  There are two options to complete your degree based on your chosen degree type. Choose between Elective Credits<\/span><\/strong> or a Concentration.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

  Option 1: Elective Credits – \u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/em>Select 20 upper division credits from Criminal Justice electives, Cybercrime Investigation and Enforcement (CIE) electives, or any combination of Social Science courses. This may include an additional 4 credits of CJ 409 Practicum.<\/span><\/p>\n

  A variety of criminal justice electives are scheduled each term representative of a diverse spectrum of criminal justice interests.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  Students not pursuing a concentration and electing to take a minor within\u00a0<\/span>Criminal<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Justice<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>cannot count these courses in their minor requirements. Students pursuing a concentration may not also pursue a minor in their chosen concentration.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

          BS in Criminal Justice (72 credits)<\/h3>\r\n

          The BS in Criminal Justice major consists of 48 credits of core coursework, and students will also select a minimum of 24 upper division credits of electives to apply toward their major.<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\r\n

          Please Note: Although the program is primarily on campus, all core classes in the major are also offered online, along with three online options for a minor or certificate.<\/span><\/h4>\r\n[section=Core Courses]\r\n\r\nStudents who have already met the general education requirements can earn their Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice in two years by taking about 12 credits per term. All CJ majors are required to take 48 credits of core classes. The courses are listed below.<\/strong>\r\n\r\nStudents will also select at least 24 credits of upper division electives to apply toward their major. Areas of concentration may also be selected with the help of an advisor. WOU does not require students to complete a minor before being awarded a BS degree in Criminal Justice. However Criminal Justice majors will generally have enough room within their required 180 credits to complete a minor. <\/strong>\r\n

                Areas of Concentration<\/h4>\r\nIn choosing electives within Criminal Justice students, in consultation with their Academic Advisor, can create an area of concentration using coursework in Criminal Justice.\r\n\r\nNote: WOU does not require that students complete a minor in order to graduate with a BS degree in Criminal Justice. If a student chooses to take a minor, classes that apply toward the minor program cannot also be counted as electives in the CJ major.\r\n

                Student Practicum<\/h4>\r\nAs part of the Criminal Justice major, students will participate in a practicum experience (CJ 409). The practicum requires 132 hours of professional experience in an agency related to the criminal justice field. This practicum is completed toward the end of a student's program of study. Students must submit a Practicum Application<\/a> to the main Criminal Justice Office in Maaske Hall room 209.\r\n\r\n[endsection]\r\n\r\n[section=Degree Requirements]\r\n\r\nIn addition to the requirements necessary to complete the chosen major and minor, students seeking a BS degree from WOU must complete the General Education<\/a> requirements for all students. <\/strong>\r\n
