Hadeel has never let barriers stand in her way, and as her advisor, I have to say that I have come to truly admire her spirit. While at WOU, Hadeel not only learned to drive a car, but also learned how to fly helicopters! Following her graduation, Hadeel returned to Saudi Arabia where she worked in the pharmaceutical industry and would give women driving lessons on her time off. She is truly an advocate of women&#8217;s rights and an inspiration. Specifically course CH 430: Applications of Forensic Science showed me that I was most interested in toxicology and drug chemistry. This course, and the program as a whole, helped me successfully prepare to work in the field. Dominique is currently working as a forensic toxicologist in Grand Junction, CO.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Estely Carranza &#8211; Double Concentration in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology and Forensic Chemistry<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2015\/09\/carran.jpg\" alt=\"carran\" class=\"wp-image-1339 alignleft\" height=\"228\" width=\"181\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2015\/09\/carran.jpg 459w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2015\/09\/carran-238x300.jpg 238w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 181px) 100vw, 181px\" \/><span style=\"color: #000000\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Estely graduated with her degree in chemistry concentrating in both forensic chemistry and medicinal chemistry and pharmacology as an honor roll student. While at WOU, she served as a mentor in our STEM Scholar&#8217;s Program, helping her younger classmates find their footing and develop into successful students. She is currently pursuing her PhD in Chemistry at U.C. Davis in Marie Heffern&#8217;s lab where she is studying the role of metals in biochemical processes occuring in the extracellular matrix.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Marvel Davis &#8211; Concentration in Forensic Chemistry\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2015\/09\/davisII.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2015\/09\/davisII.jpg\" alt=\"davisII\" class=\"wp-image-1331 alignleft\" height=\"227\" width=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2015\/09\/davisII.jpg 649w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2015\/09\/davisII-236x300.jpg 236w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 179px) 100vw, 179px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Marvel majored in chemistry with a forensic <span class=\"il\">chemistry<\/span> concentration. While at WOU, she was selected for a competitive NIH REU internship at the University of Delaware where she learned how to use Time of Flight &#8211; Secondary Ion Mass Spectometry (TOF-SIMS), and K-ALPHA+ X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometry (XPS) in a research setting looking at protein degradation of tempera for use in art conservation. Following her graduation, she spent three years working as an Aerospace Inorganic Analytical Chemist for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.element.com\/\">Element Materials Technology<\/a>. Currently, she is working as a Medical Laboratory Technologist for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coopersurgical.com\/\">Cooper Surgical<\/a> in Portland, OR.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">Brian Hauenstein &#8211; Traditional Chemistry Major and Physics Minor<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2022\/12\/Picture5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2022\/12\/Picture5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"191\" height=\"223\" class=\"wp-image-6659 alignleft\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2022\/12\/Picture5.jpg 457w, https:\/\/wou.edu\/chemistry\/files\/2022\/12\/Picture5-258x300.jpg 258w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 191px) 100vw, 191px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">While at WOU, Brian also found a great love for music.\u00a0 He played and traveled with the <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wou.edu\/music\/ensembles\/western-oregon-jazz-orchestra\/\" style=\"color: #ff0000\">WOU Jazz Orchestra, <\/a><\/span>while also working on his chemistry degree. During his senior year as a medicinal chemistry major, Obed Lopez served as an intern for <a href=\"https:\/\/dutchtest.com\/\">Precision Analytical<\/a> in McMinnville, OR. While at WOU, D-Dre was a true leader, participating as a resident assistant, playing on the rugby team, serving as a STEM Scholar Mentor, and excelling in her chemistry coursework. D-Dre is currently in medical school at John A.
