Students voted in the spring of 2011 to approve the Turf Field facility, which is the home field for Campus Recreation’s Intramural and Club Sports programs. With site preparation, the turf itself and the six 70-foot tall light towers, the project totals about $1.9 million.
An existing softball field was removed to make room for the artificial turf, then laid down crushed rock and filtered sand before installing the “carpet” and synthetic fill. A drain system moves water to a city storm drain.
The field is regulation rugby, lacrosse and soccer size. The Musco lighting system is used to keep the fields illuminated late into the evening.
