About The Stonewall Center

Throughout the academic year, The Stonewall Center hosts both social and educational events including workshops and community-building activities. The center is staffed by trained student employees and volunteers alongside one professional staff member who are available to provide peer support, provide resources, and help get students get connected to on campus and community services. Additionally, the Stonewall Center provides students with gender affirming items with our gender affirming closet in our lounge.

Our History

The Stonewall Center was originally proposed by Stephen and Megan in February 2014 and was established in the Werner University Center that same year. Their goal was to create a safe and affirming space for students while providing social and educational activities for students, faculty, and staff in order to create broader supportive social networks for the LGBTQIA2S+ community and their allies.

When WOU’s LGBTQIA2S+ resource center was first founded in 2004, it was known as The Den and was the size of a single occupancy office! We have since moved into a cozier space at WUC 110 and continue the work Stephen and Megan started in 2014 by supporting LGBTQIA2S+ students on campus with programming, resources, and peer support. Every October, on National Coming Out Day, we have the original door from the first iteration of The Den on display for students to write their coming out story on it.
