Volunteering, Internships, and Employment
Are you passionate about the work we do? Do you want to make a difference in the WOU community? In Abby’s House, we have a few different opportunities for students to get involved with our office. Check out the positions below, and contact us if you have any questions!
Volunteering
If you want a flexible and easy way to get involved, the perfect way to jump in is to be a volunteer with us! As a volunteer, we will provide you with necessary training and support, and you can choose how much you want to be involved. Volunteers must be able to pass a background check, as well as sign volunteer agreement forms.
The Food Pantry and Stitch Closet rely on our volunteers to keep the space open and these resources available to the WOU and local community.
Volunteers can expect to:
- Assist with food deliveries
- Process food and clothing donations
- Restock shelves and racks
- Greet and check out customers

The Stonewall Center volunteers are essential to creating an affirming and welcoming space for our students, and building community within the LGBTQIA+ community.
Volunteers can expect to:
- Staff the center and engage with students who visit
- Assist with organizing and maintaining the lounge
- Provide information and resources
- Assist with events

Internships
If you’re looking for more commitment or hands on experience, check out our internship opportunities! Our internships are collaborative and project driven. We meet with students to discuss their interests, future goals, and ideas, and our staff will work with you to create projects to complete.
If you are looking to receive course credit for your internship, let us know and we can work with your professor or advisor to make sure you complete all the necessary requirements.
Abby’s House Projects
As an intern working on Abby’s House projects, you will have the opportunity to have your hand in almost everything we do. This role will cover our topic areas of violence prevention, bystander intervention, gender equity, and general office projects. Some examples of projects can include:
- Creating and facilitating workshops and presentations
- Developing a social media campaign
- Creating resources and brochures
- Supporting the Stonewall Center with LGBTQ+ focused events and resources
Survivor Support Projects
As an intern focusing on survivor support, you’ll work with our advocates to support survivors of interpersonal violence in different ways. Some examples of projects for this internship include:
- Updating self care kits for survivors
- Assist with developing support group materials
- Developing resources and brochures for survivors
- Creating and facilitating healing and self care workshops
Basic Needs Projects
As an intern focused on basic needs, you’ll work with our Basic Needs Coordinator and the Basic Needs Team to assist them with various projects. Some examples of projects include:
- Creating resources and handouts
- Developing and facilitating workshops
- Organizing a fundraiser
- Assisting the Food Pantry and Stitch Closet with various projects such as processing donations, organizing and restocking supplies, and developing feedback surveys

Office Manager
- Oversee front desk and daily office operations
- Assist with program logistics and developing promotional materials
- Manage social media accounts
Stonewall Center Coordinator
- Keep the Stonewall Center open and welcoming for students
- Plan and host events for the LGBTQ+ community
- Support outreach and visibility for the center
Food Pantry Coordinator
- Manage daily operators of the Food Pantry
- Process food donations and restock shelves
- Host fundraisers, food drives, and other events
Stitch Closet Volunteer
- Manage daily operators of the Stitch Closet
- Process clothing donations and replenish clothing racks
- Host fundraisers, clothing drives, and other events
Volunteer Coordinator
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers in the Food Pantry and Stitch Closet
- Coordinate volunteer schedules, and cover shifts as needed
- Assist with social media and promotional materials
Peer Educator
- Create and facilitate workshops and events
- Develop promotional materials and social media content
- Create educational materials to distribute
