Brief introduction about the author
My name is Stefanus Christian Relmasira. I was born and grew up in Ambon – a small beautiful island located in the east part of Indonesia. In 2007 I started my teaching in Salatiga – a small city in the central Java, Indonesia. Before I came to the USA, I worked at the Faculty of Teacher Training in Satya Wacana Christian University for about two years. I taught college students in the program of Elementary School Teacher Education and Training. My teaching expertise was in English and technology in education. I also had experience in teaching some some online clasess in the program.
In 2009 I got a scholarship to pursue my master degree in Education and Information Technology at Western Oregon University, Monmouth, Oregon. That was a big opportunity that God has given to me. I was sponsored by United States Agency for International Development in Indonesia.
I believe that teaching is a ministry to serve God. Thus my duty as an educator is to broaden students’ horizon and create transformation not only in their minds but also in their characters to be a channel of God blessings to other people. I must prepare my students to have a positive impact on the world. This can be achieved if students can develop their talents and increase their creativity in their lives. Thus, empowering students to develop their talents and creativity is very important. Most importantly, there should not be any gaps between schools and society. Technology in this case takes a role in the digital age to empower meaningful learning.
My dream is to build an ideal school in Indonesia. A school withouth standardized tests. Perhaps people may think that I’m too idealistic, but this is what I’m always struggling with. I believe that with God everything is possible.
