What's New News and Resources to help your student succeed at WOU
Flu Season in Full Effect in Polk County Influenza is here in full swing, and due to a national shortage and restriction of flu vaccines, the WOU Student Health and Counseling Center is currently unable to provide this service to our students. However, we strongly advise all students who have not already received the 2012-2013 influenza (flu) vaccine do so immediately while supplies last (as soon as possible). This shortage is county and statewide. Electronic Medical Records-Winter 2013
Electronic Medical Records January 2013 marks the introduction of the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR's) at the WOU Student Health & Counseling Center. Some appointment availability may be affected while our staff learns the new system, and students will be assisted in finding alternate care in the area if they request. We are excited to offer this new service to students, as we are confident that it will allow us to better serve them during their time at WOU.
Insurance Western Oregon University offers a comprehensive medical insurance plan, available to all students enrolled in six or more credit hours (not including online credit hours) and their dependents. The Western Oregon University Student Medical Plan is NOT MANDATORY for domestic students, and you will not be automatically enrolled. All domestic students enrolled in six credit hours or more (not including online credit hours) are eligible to enroll on a voluntary basis. . Counseling Support Groups
This term, our center will offer three workshops/groups: 1) Alive and Thriving: This is an educational, confidential group that provides support for women who have experienced sexual or physical abuse. Facilitated by counseling professionals, this group includes use of expressive arts. 2) Asperger's/High Functioning Autism Support Group: This is an educational, confidential group that focuses on providing peer support, relating to others, socializing and succeeding in the college environment. 3) Grief and Loss Workshop This is an educational, confidential group that focuses on providing a time and space for students managing the loss of a loved one to gather additional coping strategies, share with others about their losses, and connect with those who have had similar experiences.
To register for any of these workshops, students may call our center: (503) 838-8396 or email health@wou.edu. Prior to participating in a group, an intake appointment must be completed with a counselor at the Student Health & Counseling Center. Groups available to WOU Students only. |
