Western Oregon University proclaimed May 14-18, 2001 as Peace Week. The campus celebrated with various activities on campus from peace poetry readings and music performances to internationally acclaimed speakers. The Library participated in the celebrations with three exhibits or displays throughout the month of May. Steel Case, 3rd Floor: Peace Buttons: May 4 - 31, 2001 The peace artifacts in this display are from the collection of Lotte Larsen, a retired librarian at Western’s Library. Since the 1980s she has collected protest items and given numerous papers at scholarly conferences on the history and uses of the peace symbol. Cutaror: Lotte Larsen, retired WOU Librarian
3rd Floor: Poster Display: May 10 - May 24, 2001 Posters and paintings from Art Department students address the topics of peace and violence in a visual presentation. Layers of imagery with color, text and form are captured in these powerful visual statements. Curators: Diane Tarter & Suellen Johnson
