How To Apply for Academic Training

 

NOTE: You are only eligible to apply for AT before the program end date on the DS-2019 passes. Therefore, you must complete the following before the end date:

  1. Obtain a job offer from an employer or volunteer site and have them write a letter of employment. Please provide the prospective employer with the following sample letter to guide the writing of the letter of employment.

  2. Bring the letter of employment and the Academic Advisor Academic Training Certification Form to a meeting with your academic advisor or department head. They will need to use the information on the offer letter of employment to complete the Certification form.

  3. Submit the online form below

  4. Make an appointment with ISSA Responsible Officer and bring a copy of the employment letter and the Academic Advisor's AT Certification form to the meeting.

  5. Responsible Officer will adjudicate whether or not the AT is warranted and appropriate. If so, you will be issued a letter of approval and a new DS-2019 with the AT dates noted.

  6. You may begin work once you have received a letter of approval.

Don't forget to give your academic advisor the PDF to complete (see link above). After you have pressed "Submit", scroll up to read the confirmation message at the top of the form.
