Chemistry About the Program Chemistry is the study of matter, the material of the universe and its changes. A knowledge of chemical principles provides the groundwork for the intellectual consideration of the effect of chemistry on society.
Western's chemistry program is designed to prepare students for careers as laboratory chemists or forensic chemists, for graduate study in pure or applied chemistry, or as a core for pre-professional training for careers in the health sciences and chemical education. Combining a chemistry major with an appropriate minor prepares students for careers in fields such as biochemistry, oceanography, toxicology and in environmental and atmospheric science.
We offer two different options both leading to a degree in Chemistry.
Degree requirements, class descriptions and availability Your degree requirements are determined by the year that you entered WOU. If you are an undeclared major you will need to work with Academic Advising and possibly the Chemistry Department to determine your course of study. If you have declared a major within the Chemistry Department, you will need to work with your assigned faculty advisor.
