Biology Degrees

General Biology, Biology Education, and Specialized/Pre-Professional Options

Students seeking a strong background in biology may complete one of the following Biology Degree options, earning either a B.A. or a B.S.  The distinction between a B.A. or B.S. in either track is defined by specific university criteria in the general catalog.  The General Biology and Biology Education Majors are recommended for individuals seeking a strong general background and is most appropriate for students going on to secondary education/masters in teaching. The Specialized/Pre-Professional option is most appropriate for persons planning to pursue advanced professional (e.g. medical or dental school) or graduate study in more specialized sub-disciplines of biology.   The Molecular/Biochemistry degree option is a Natural Science Degree and also is appropriate for either career track. Biology majors must have a 2.00 GPA in courses that are counted to satisfy the major requirements.

Biology minors must pass the majors introductory series (Bi211-213) and take an additional 15 advanced electives in biology, with approval of a biology advisor.
