German Placement Test
The following online placement test will help you select the course that is appropriate for your level. It can be found at http://www.langenscheidt-education.com/_downloads/viz/Einstufungstest-Internet-pdf1.pdf .
How to begin:
Click on the test link and skip to p. 5.
Pages 5-6: T 1
Allow 10 minutes. Follow the instructions and after filling in the blanks, check your answers on p.16. Divide the number of correct answers by the number possible: 60% is passing. If you passed, proceed to the next test, T2. If you earned less than 60%, you should enrol in GL 101, which is offered fall term only.
Pages 7-8: T 2
Allow 10 minutes. Follow the instructions and after filling in the blanks, check your answers on p.16. Divide the number of correct answers by the number possible: 60% is passing. If you passed, you have met the proficiencies for First Year German and could enrol in Second Year German, GL 201, which is offered fall term only. If you earned less than 60%, you should enrol in First Year German, winter term (GL 102).
Pages 9-10: T 3
Allow 10 minutes. Follow the instructions and after filling in the blanks, check your answers on p.16. Divide the number of correct answers by the number possible: 60% is passing. If you passed, you have met the requirements for Second Year German, fall term (GL 201) and could enrol in GL 202, which is offered winter term only. If you earned less than 60%, you should enrol in GL 201, which is offered fall term only.
Pages 11-12: T 4
Allow 10 minutes. Follow the instructions and after filling in the blanks, check your answers on p.16. Divide the number of correct answers by the number possible: 60% is passing. If you passed, you have met the requirements for Second Year German and could enrol in Third Year German, GL 301, which is offered fall term only. If you earned less than 60%, you should enrol in GL 202, which is offered winter term only.

Allow 10 minutes. Follow the instructions and after filling in the blanks, check your answers on p.16. Divide the number of correct answers by the number possible: 60% is passing. If you passed, you have met the requirements for Third Year German, fall term, and could enrol in GL 302, which is offered winter term only. If you earned less than 60%, you should enrol in GL 301, which is offered fall term only.
