PhD in Nutritional Sciences: University of Washington
Professional: Dr. Neilann Horner has been a registered dietitian for 23 years initially specializing in renal nutrition and intensive care nutrition support. With completion of a Masters’ degree in Public Health at the University of Illinois and a PhD in nutrition at the University of Washington, her focus migrated to broader population issues related to disease prevention. Dr. Horner worked on energy balance, phytochemicals, and gene-nutrient interaction studies at The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Most recently, she served in a medical scientist role with GlaxoSmithKline working on osteoporosis and diabetes related solutions. Dr. Horner now calls the Willamette Valley home where she is a full-time visiting professor of Community Health at Western Oregon University and a media representative for the Oregon Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the Oregon Dietetic Association).
