Dr. Gavin Keulks joined the faculty of Western Oregon University’s English Studies Department in fall 1999.  For the first ten years of his career he taught classes in literary history, critical theory, and film, with a special focus on contemporary English and Irish literature.  Since 2008, he has also served as the Director of the Honors Program at WOU.  In this capacity he has had the most direct engagement with campus recruitment, retention, and student success initiatives.  This engagement has been recognized at both the campus and national levels, ranging from WOU’s Faculty Advisor of the Year award (2014) and the Pastega Award for Excellence in Scholarship (2007) to the Faculty Advisor of the Year award (2016) from NACADA: the Global Community for Academic Advising.  He has also served on numerous faculty and administrative committees, including as Faculty Senate President and executive committee member. Dr. Keulks received a bachelor’s degree in English with Honors from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He obtained a master’s degree and Ph.D. in English from the University of Kentucky.
