WOU Art Department Scholarships

The Art Department currently offers four scholarship opportunities:

  • Portfolio Review Scholarship
  • Returning Art Student Scholarship
  • The Dan and Gail Cannon Painting Scholarship
  • The Peter and Gwen Stone Ceramic Scholarship

The Portfolio Review Scholarship is a competitive scholarship open to all in- coming freshmen and transfer students. Each year, several thousands of dollars are awarded in tuition waivers to eligible applicants. The in-coming freshman scholarship is renewable for up to 4 years and the transfer student scholarship can be renewed for up to 2 years. This scholarship requires recipients to be full- time art majors who maintain a B average in the art major. To be considered, applicants must register for Portfolio Day and bring a sampling of their artwork for review. This can include 2-D, 3-D, and graphic design pieces. As many as 4 scholarships have been awarded in previous years. For additional information, or to obtain a scholarship application, please contact the WOU Art Department at 503-838-8340.

The Returning Art Student Scholarship is a competitive scholarship open to all returning art students at WOU. Students present an application form, portfolio of their artwork and an artist statement for review in the spring term of the academic year. Application forms can be found on the WOU Art Department webpages and in the Art Department office at the beginning of spring term. The scholarship is a non-renewable tuition waiver. Applications for Returning Art Student Scholarships (including the Cannon Painting and Stone Ceramic scholarships) are available at the Art Office in Campbell Hall.

The Dan and Gail Cannon Painting Scholarship is annually awarded to painting students who show promise in their work. Students who wish to be considered for this scholarship should submit their work to the Returning Art Student Scholarship rreview. This award is non-renewable.
